SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ICONE

CHRIST IMMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD

The first and fondamental icone is the face of Christ, revelation of the face of the invisible God, rendered possible by the incarnation of Christ.

God is no longer an unaccessable immage but with Christ he becomes a real person with two natures: the divine and the human. The icone misterously renders present the person characterised and this distinguishes clearly the icone from a painting.

It seems that the first icone was designed by the evangelist S. Luca who was a painter. The icones was a help to know the secret writing to whoewer could not read, telling them through images, the mistery of salvation and the word of God.
The faithful, the more he looks at the icone, the more he remenbers he whom it represents and the more he forces himself to immitate it. To be himself testimony of respect and veneration but not adoration which it due only to God.

A WINDOW ON ETERNITY

The immage represented after benediction, becomes really present and contemplated with the eyes of the heart and illuminated by faith, it opens us to invisible reality and to it's total supernaturaly and to the mistery of christianism.
Collectively and silently perhaps we shall be led by the spirit in the light of the icone, to contemplate the face of Christ and it's divine truth.
